He doesn’t have a choice
She can’t walk away
Everyday they live with it
the pain
the history
The look in our eyes
when they ask what we see and we tell them its
not there
How much grief we owe and all the ignorance
we plead
sitting on our couch deciding when to start again
If only they had that luxury If only you
could look at him
and say who he is
and not what she isn’t
If only you could say who you were without having
to fight back
and how foolish
I am
for wanting
to erase our history.
It’s right there right there
and all we do is point to our nations flag and pretend that its stars pure and stripes clean.
I am privileged to be here and to be apart of supremacy WE have to recognize
how inherent this is
and how racist
the pain
the history

I can be
and that everyday when a black man walks out
there’s been
a constant struggle
to define themselves because of us
and because we don’t
share the same reality
and yet I see so many white faces get upset
when their freedom emancipated and their culture celebrated
no longer held back
by the roles we cast for them
and the more we try to define you
understand
we want to clip your wings.
